I have a good friend who for the past several years takes a photo everyday. With no particular aim or reason other then to take said photo, she clicks away, everyday. When she started the project, like the beginnings of Facebook or Myspace, (remember Friendster?) the whole idea seemed so odd and pointless. Now like with many social media outlets, taking a photo a day on our phones is the norm. Weather we post them up or even do projects such as this #500wordsaday that I have been doing, is another level of internet commitment. I'm so used to my old ways of writing in my journal, then disecting my favorite passages into a cohesive poem that I post on my site. But I'm gonna up my game here. Not only gonna recommit to my web writing but reading as well.
Regarding this 30 day project, I truly feel as if I'm just getting warmed up. From the routine of typing daily to posting, the biggest challenge, as with anyone who just completed this project, was to fit the time of writing into their daily schedules. So the actually creative task of writing each day, finding source and inspiration, was never a problem for me. The daily time is the challenge. But I have to say the rewards of writing everyday has been immeasurable. I want it to continue. Continue it shall as I will write 500 a day, either here on on my site, for another 30 days. I want a longer term goal, but I think another 30 days is a bit more realistic and mentally doable.
With the recent visit of my stunning girlfriend, we solidified our love and came up with some creative ideas to participate in while we continue our long distance relationship. Actually, Los Angeles and Austin is just a 2 1/2 hour flight apart, not too far or long at all. So, we purchased the book The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffennegger. The goal here is to read a chapter at a time, facetime and talk about the chapter and read on. Cool right? It beats the mundane "What are/did you do today?" calls that can strangle any relationship. It's a great premise and start so far and look forward to chatting with her about it. The book, The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho, was the first book my gal sent to me in a care package. Being a slow reader at times, I'm in the 200's of the novel and dig the chapter to chapter POV's of supporter characters.
The Warrior of the Light by Coelho also was her gift to me during her recent visit. Between the amazing Valentine's weekend and some challenges I shared with her, she thought this would be the perfect daily reader for me. It is, I love opening up to any random page and finding a source of inspiration. Being a martial artist, I also dig the Warrior bent while being part of the light and not just some frivolous head hunter, glory gainer, that has no divine purpose.
One Year with Hafiz
Wow, this one is gonna be a big one. As each day here is dated, I want to read and video tape myself, to my girl, a poem a day. I figure right after I pray in the early am I can do this. If I get too wrapped up with my day, then I know I will fail. Also like my sobriety, 4 days away from 6 months thank you very much, I don't want to think about the fact that this is a year commitment. Like my relationship with her, I want to keep it all in the here and now.
I know all of these writing and reading projects, if kept in the living present, will birth of gifts. A healthy loving relationship, honest writing and increased higher life observations would be amazing to achieve. But again, I'll just go with this flow and see what happens. See you on down the road.
