About

Santiago, 78, a retired musician, feels his life is about to end on this earth. So he sets out to prepare for the next world. He waits for his train to arrive at a local station. He carries a beat up accordion and dawns a wooden peg leg. Flashback, we see a teenage Santiago, it's 1927, the birth of Jazz and the Mexican-American experience along the train routes where immigrants work the many seasonal crops. Santiago is with his step Father, Don Chava, who has a strong grip on Santiago and craves to return to Mexico. Santiago loves to sing and play the accordion, but through a co-worker, Jelly, discovers the passion and expression of Jazz. Santiago wants to stay in America. Luciana, a vibrant young woman, seeks to educate herself in this new land. The two meet at a camp dance and fall for other's dreams and kisses. Don Chava, bitter about Santiago's new love, leaves for Mexico via train jumping. Santiago follows him, jumping the train as well, resulting in an epic brawl. Tragedy and hope follow as the old Santiago reflects on his life and Luciana. Just then the train arrives, with the young Luciana waving him on. He boards the train, a new life has just begun.
